The Interior of DaeBak

DaeBak Korean restaurant’s signature dish is their version of Samgyeopsal – a traditional dish of grilled pork belly that is wrapped in lettuce and eaten with a spicy sauce.

DaeBak’s version includes shrimp, mushrooms, kimchi, corn and cheese along with an omelet and fruits.

DaeBak Korean restaurant has a treat for grilled pork lovers, they have UNLIMITED samgyeopsal for only 400 pesos.  The 400 peso version however has less ingredients than the 600 peso version. It is still a bargain especially if you pair it with their 40 peso UNLIMITED rice.

We found the Samgyeopsal to be just ok.  What we really liked at DaeBak are their other Korean dishes.  These are the true stars of the show.

We tried DaeBak Korean restaurant’s Korean Spicy Pork, Tteokbokki rice cakes and Bibim Mandu Korean dumplings.  Portion sizes are generous.

Tteokbokki is a dish of stir-fried rice cakes.  DaeBak Korean restaurant serves two kinds – the spicy and non spicy kinds.  We picked the spicy version. The rice cakes have a chewy texture and the spicy sauce they are served in enhances the taste.  I really liked these especially since DaeBak included fish sausage in the dish.  The dish also comes with a boiled egg.

The Korean Spicy pork or Jeyuk Bokkeum is a dish of stir fried pork and vegetables coated in a sweetish-spicy sauce.  This is a really good dish – it was a hit with my friends at the table.  It manages to pull off the sweet-spicy balance that most Filipinos love.

Another popular dish with our group was the Bibim mandu or Korean Potsticker salad.  The potstickers are delicately fried and served with stir-fried vegetables covered with sauce and sprinkled with sesame seeds.

We were given Udon soup with bits of fried batter – kinda like the Japanese Tanuki soba. It’s a non spicy dish and it served as a nice palate cleanser.

Don’t worry if you don’t like spicy food. You can ask for less or non spicy versions of their dishes.  Spiciness however is subjective – some people love spicy food while others can’t handle it at all!

Is the food spicy?

Service is excellent at Daebak. The owner personally greets the guests and goes around checking on his guests.  He even built a wheelchair ramp when he saw one of his guests having difficulty getting to his restaurant.  Very dedicated! Thank you!
