Gunny’s All American Burger is the best place in Bacolod to have a burger. There’s no question about it. Nothing comes close to this tiny restaurant that serves American style burgers and sides. Expats and Filipinos alike come to Gunny’s to socialize and try the food that reminds them of America: The big U.S. of A.
We started this to give us something to do.
Gene Jackson
This home-style restaurant was started 6-8 years ago by Gene Jackson, a retired U.S. Marine Corps sergeant and his wife Nilda who retired to the Philippines.

They put up the business to give them “something to do.” It certainly is something as Gunny’s All American Burger soon became known for its amazing and filling burgers. Gunny’s Burgers is located along C.L. Montelibano Street, near the University of Saint La Salle Bacolod city.
Despite being next to a school, Gene has refused to “dumb down” his menu for the students – and instead focused on the quality of the burgers.
Burgers like my momma used to make…

The best sellers are the charcoal flame-grilled burgers that you can customize. You can add pickles, barbecue sauce, bacon, mozzarella cheese, cheddar cheese, blue cheese and a whole lot of other stuff to your burgers. Gunny’s All American Burgers has burgers ranging from 100 grams to 1 kilogram. That’s a whole lot of meat!
The burgers are just part of the menu. Another area where Gunny’s shines is its extensive amount of side dishes. There are tons of sides like good old fashioned corn dogs, onion rings, nachos, tacos, and even fish sandwiches and deep fried chicken sandwiches. Gene is from North Carolina and most of his recipes were handed down to him from his mother.

Whenever we visit Gunny’s we usually have the fish sandwich with a side of beer battered onion rings or a side of homemade potato chips. The beer battered fish sandwiches are excellent and they’re named after a friend of Gene’s who taught him how to make them.

Another favourite of customers are the Chili Cheese Fries. Gene makes homemade chili and and dumps it all on french fries then tops them with mozzarella cheese. The fries are sliced real potatoes, cut and fried only when you order them. There’s none of the processed artificial potato starch thingies here at Gunny’s.

Gunny’s All American burger also has a wonderful creation called the Taco Rice. It’s rice topped with chili, mozzarella cheese, sour cream and a small salad.

Gunny’s all american burgers has a lot more items on the menu but a big part of its charm is Gene Jackson himself. Gene loves talking to his customers and making them feel at home. But be warned! Ask him about the United States Marine Corps and he will break into a big smile and talk your ear off for about an hour about his many adventures. Some of the menu is “secret” so talk to Gene and find out about the hidden specials and combos that are available.
At Gunny’s you can have it your way… Wait, that’s already taken? Ah, F*ck it.
