Rumah Makan Kampung: Indonesian and SEA food in Bacolod City

The Little Shops at The Shophouse Heritage is now open and the very first stall is the amazing Rumah Makan Kampung which serves Indonesian, Thai and Malay food.

The owner, Leo Gomez is a nice and friendly man who looks very much like a Filipino Hayao Miyazaki. He has worked all over asia and learned to cook the various cuisines of the countries he worked in!

Leo Gomez doing his best Hayao miyazaki impression. He also runs Halampangan Cafe Bar!
Edit

If he looks familiar to our readers, you’re right! Leo Gomez is also the owner of Halampangan cafe and Rumah Makan Kampung is his small outlet in Bacolod City.

Our orders were:
Nasi Goreng Kampung – The house special! This is Indonesian fried rice with little anchovies! 🍚🐟🍳

Nasi Goreng Kampung is spicy fried rice from Indonesia. It has anchovies, Shrimp crackers and an egg. See the cucumbers? They’re there to cool your tongue off when you find things too spicy! Try it!

Beef Rendang -A Spicy and rich Malaysian beef stew made with beef, spices and coconut milk. 🍖🌶️🥥

Tom Yum Goong (with glass noodles) – Leo’s Tom Yung Goong is extremely good. We could have this everyday and not get tired of it! 🍤🍜

Tom Yum Goong is a popular Thai soup that packs a punch of flavors! We love the version that Leo makes.

But when you visit, DON’T stay on the ground floor! Head for the SECOND FLOOR of the little shops for a beautiful dining area and a FANTASTIC VIEW of the shophouse.

The gorgeous black and white themed second floor. This spot is a great place to hang out as it remains cool and breezy due to a special architectural feature!

Also, The second floor cleverly uses the 🌬️ Bernoulli effect to cool diners off without using electricity! It’s a smart design by Architect Cris Laino, designer of Pugad Viewing Deck

The Bernoulli effect is a phenomenon that happens when air or fluid moves quickly, creating an area of low pressure.

Now, consider the holes in the wall on the second floor of the little shops. These holes use the Bernoulli effect. When air flows swiftly through these holes, it causes a drop in air pressure. This drop in pressure cools down the surrounding area, creating a refreshing breeze without using electricity.

So, essentially, the holes in the wall harness the Bernoulli effect to create a natural and energy-efficient way of cooling the second floor, providing a comfortable environment for those inside.

It’s a clever design that uses the principles of fluid dynamics to enhance comfort without relying on traditional cooling methods.

📍Rumah Makan Kampung is located in The Little Shops at The Shophouse Heritage – Narra Extension, Bacolod City (Behind Robinson’s Triangle Island Plaza)
