Grill Guru: Grilled Food and more

One of the newest restaurants to open near the La Salle high school (La Salle avenue) is Grill Guru.  Martin and his dad decided to stop by for lunch one afternoon.

Grill Guru's cute placemat

Grill Guru is a house converted into a restaurant.  It has a nice pleasant lawn and a swimming pool that looks very inviting!  The inside of the restaurant is the sala of the house and it offers a beautiful view of the pool which relaxes the diners.

The outside of Grill Guru. That swimming pool looks so inviting!
The excellent and totally relaxing dining area

Grill Guru has various grilled dishes on their menu.  They also serve pasta and desserts.  We decided to take the waiter’s recommendation and ordered a few of their specialties.  We had the Calamares, Grilled Dory and Chicken Curry skewers.

While waiting for the food, a glass of the special house iced tea to wash it down.

The Calamares camwas the first to arrive and it was very good.  The batter had spices mixed into it and it went well with the excellent spiced mayonnaise dip that came with the calamares.

Calamares!

Dory is a very bland fish but Grill Guru’s Dory was well marinated in a sweetish barbecue sauce that made it taste like a well barbecued piece of meat.

The chicken curry skewers were ordered by Martin Banana’s Dad.  When asked for his opinion on how the chicken tasted all he said was:  “It’s good, now shut up and eat your Dory.”

Chicken Curry skewers

Grill Guru is a nice place to dine however the portion sizes are a bit small and prices range from being  a bit pricy to fairly priced. (160 php for the Dory and 110 for the curry chicken skewers) .  The place is new so we’re hoping in the future they enlarge the portion sizes a bit and not skimp on the rice. (Fried rice fluffed up looks like a sufficient amount in the photos but in reality it’s probably just half a cup of rice.  See the dory picture.)

If you really want to impress your guests and visitors, take them to Grill Guru.  The place is very pleasant and clean and the food is good!

My wife took me to Grill Guru yesterday for a Father’s Day lunch. What a wonderful surprise it was. The restaurant is beautifully decorated; the view of the swimming pool etc., was great; and the quality of the food and the service was nothing short of superb.

We were greeted at the door by the owner who who showed us to a nice table overlooking the swimming pool. The menu’s were 3-color and very nicely laid out. The pictures of the food were the real McCoy. The food that we ordered looked exactly like it did on the menu.

The staff were all very friendly and helpful. They all wore nice, neat, red polo shirts with the Grill Guru insignia imprinted on the front. Before we finished our meals we were greeted by not only the owner but also the general manager as well as the head chef. They all wanted to know the same thing ~ was our food good ~ did we like the restaurant ~ was the service good. We had nothing but good things to say about every aspect of dining there.

In an effort to leave no stone unturned, and in an effort to find something to criticize, I decided to visit the CR….the downfall of many restaurants in Bacolod. Imagine my surprise. The place was spotless!! The toilets were sparkling and were complete with toilet seats and covers. There was an ample supply of toilet paper, as well as plenty of hand soap and paper towels. This CR was as sanitary as the ones in our own home.

There’s a well well known restaurant in town that is famous for its cheeseburger. Well, guess what, the cheeseburger I had at Grill Guru beat the competition’s hands down.

Keep up the great work Grill Guru!!

I’m glad you’re back Jim! We missed your comments!

We’re so glad you had a nice experience at Grill Guru! Their pool looks so nice and inviting and the whole place is wonderful! How were their portion sizes when you went there?

I’m glad you liked the food! It means that they’ve improved on their service and their food since we last visited there. Based on your recommendation we will try their cheeseburgers!

        Hello Martin,

Thanks for the note. Marilu and I really loved this place. The cleanliness and the quality of the food was, in my opinion, second to none. In re-reading your post I would have to agree with you that some of the portions could have been a little bigger. Neither my wife of I are big eaters so we found the portions to be perfect. Bigger eaters might want a little more. Maybe they could have a “regular size” and a “super size”.

I really hope this restaurant flourishes — the owners have really poured their hearts and souls into making it a success. For a new restaurant their staff seemed to have been very well trained as well.

Had a late lunch here on a lazy Sunday afternoon last 19th, and it was good. I ordered Tomato Crostini, Chicken Sate, Panna Cotta, and Iced Tea. Special house tea is a bit too sweet for me though. The ambience is excellent. Will try out the sandwiches next time… and the chocolate cake. Hopefully they add brewed coffees/ teas in their menu to pair with the dessert. 😉 Overall Rating: 8/10

      Hi Rage,

Thank you for visiting us. We are glad to let you know that we have already added brewed coffee and flavored hot teas in our menu. We have also added more items like spaghetti bolognese, Grilled cream Dory in creamy garlic sauce and grilled bangus belly. A few more dishes are coming out in the next 2 weeks.

Hope you can come and visit us again.

    Hello all,

Marilu and I had lunch at Grill Guru yesterday. Wow!! Some great changes have taken place in this already great restaurant. First, they have a brand new menu. It’s printed on heavy card stock then each page is heat sealed in plastic to keep them clean. The menu has also been very nicely bound. Second, a number of new dishes have been added to the menu. And, finally, Grill Guru can now serve beer. They have San Miguel pilsen and San Miguel lite.

    Keep it coming Grill Guru!!

Hi Jim this is from a concerned foodie. Sad to say grill guru’s quality is not the same anymore I ate there last week and the burger was very salty. I heard the chef isn’t there anymore… By the way I passed by silay on my way to the airport and came accross this new resto named andie’s… The chef talked to us and he used to be with grill guru and responsible for the burger there… If you like he still has that recipe and serves it in his resto. And they also have a really good backribs too…Thanks jim

      Hello Anton,

Thanks for the heads-up on Grill Guru. We have 10 or 11 people going there for lunch later this month. Hope they’ve gotten their food preparation worked-out by then. We really love this restaurant and would hate to see it go by the boards as so many other restaurants in Bacolod have gone. It seems like a new restaurant opens and they have great food, equally good service, and a great following. Then, After a few month, everything seems to fall trough the floor. The almighty peso takes over and the food quality, the service, and everything else starts heading down hill — the prices, however, remain the same. I’d sure hate to see that happen to Grill Guru.

      Best regards
